What to Wear for a Corporate Headshot

Jeffery Stine · June 30, 2026 · 4 min read

Colors, fabrics, and necklines that hold up under professional studio lighting — and the choices that quietly undermine an otherwise strong portrait.

Solids first

Solid colors keep attention on your face. Mid-to-dark tones separate cleanly from a dark studio background and give the image a grounded, executive feel. Very light tops can work beautifully, but they need a slightly different lighting approach — worth mentioning when you book.

Fit matters more than brand

A moderately priced jacket that fits your shoulders will always photograph better than an expensive one that does not. Sleeve length, collar spread, and shoulder seam placement are the details that read instantly in a tight crop.

Small things to check

Avoid loud logos, distracting jewelry, and anything you will fidget with. If you wear glasses, bring them — anti-glare handling is part of a professional lighting setup, not a reason to shoot without them.
